There are four major trends in thin film switching power supply technology today: power supply technology has always been one of the most important technical fields in electronic circuit research, and switching power supply technology is the main technology in power supply technology. The technical article excerpted below can well illustrate some new developments in switching power supply technology in recent years.
1、 Rapid development of non isolated DC/DC technology
In recent years, non isolated DC/DC technology has developed rapidly. Currently, a set of electronic devices or systems may require the power system to provide multiple voltage levels due to different loads. For example, desktop PCs require four voltages:+12V,+5V,+3.3V, and -12V, as well as standby+5V voltage. On the motherboard, 2.5V, 1.8V, 1.5V, and even 1V are required. It is impossible to provide such a large number of voltage outputs in a set of AC/DC, and most low-voltage power supply currents are large. Therefore, many non isolated DC/DCs have been developed, which can be basically divided into two categories. One type contains power switching components internally, called DC/DC converters. The other type does not contain power switches and requires external Power MOSFET, called DC/DC controller. According to circuit functions, there are STEP-DOWN for voltage reduction, BOOST for voltage increase, BUCK-BOOST or SEPIC for voltage increase and decrease, and INVERTOR for converting positive pressure to negative pressure. Among them, STEP-DOWN has the most varieties and the fastest development. According to the magnitude of the output current, it can be divided into single-phase, two-phase, and multiphase. PWM is the main control method, with a small portion being PFM.
In non isolated DC/DC conversion technology, TI's pre detection gate drive technology uses digital technology to control synchronous BUCK. The DC/DC conversion efficiency using this technology can reach up to 97%, with TPS40071 and other representative products being its representative products. The BOOST boost method has also introduced synchronous BOOST products that use MOSFETs instead of diodes. In the low-voltage field, there is a significant increase in efficiency, and efforts are being made to further eliminate the conduction and reverse recovery issues of MOSFET bulk diodes.
2、 Thin film switch power supply blows digital horn
At present, in the entire electronic analog circuit system, television, audio equipment, photo processing, communication, network, etc. have gradually achieved digitization, and the last bastion without digitization is the power supply field. In recent years, the research momentum of digital power sources has not decreased, and the results are also increasing. The leading companies in power digitization include TI and Microchip. TI Company not only has the advantages in DSP, but also has merged with UNITRODE Company, a professional manufacturer of PWM ICs. The company has made a 48V output high-power power module for communication using TMS320C28F10, with the PFC and PWM parts completely controlled by digital control. Now, TI Company has developed multiple digital PWM control chips. Currently, the main products are the UCD7000 series, UCD8000 series, and UCD9000 series, which will become the next generation digital power supply
