Shielding layer
Introduction EL erjiguan.htm
The shielding layer is a component of membrane switch, which plays the following or more roles:
(1) Safely release potential harmful static electricity to avoid damage to sensitive electronic components.
(2) Shielded membrane switch, protected from radio frequency and electromagnetic interference from the surrounding environment.
(3) Reduce or eliminate the radiation of radio frequency interference and electromagnetic interference through reflection or absorption.
The effectiveness and performance of the shielding layer depend on the characteristics and structure of the shielding material, as well as the frequency and distance of the shielding source. Electromagnetic interference shielding is commonly used in medical equipment, military, telecommunications, and many other electronic devices. Because these devices are equipped with new radiation and anti-interference components, the importance of shielding increases accordingly.
The typical assembly structures used in our company in the past are as follows
Silk screen conductive silver: usually printed on polyester with mesh structure to meet the special requirements of operation, this layer is below the facial mask layer.
Design considerations:
(1) According to the assembly conditions, the facial mask layer material should have enough insulation to resist static electricity. For example, the polyester facial mask layer with a thickness of 125 µ m should be able to withstand a voltage of 15kV.
(2) Because it should provide enough shielding for the surface of the facial mask layer, the weak points at the edge of the panel should be carefully considered. Even if the insulation of the facial mask layer is quite good, the static electricity near the panel edge will also interfere with the surrounding of the facial mask layer and enter the panel through the edge of the circuit layer. Our factory will carefully design to ensure the avoidance of such phenomena and protect them.
(3) Our company's technical personnel have various experience in laminating and can help you solve various special difficulties related to shielding layers.
(4) The customer should provide a detailed description of the required shielding layer. Some high-tech shielding layers are relatively expensive and are only considered for use when they are particularly needed.
Note: The decrease in magnetic field strength is determined by frequency, shielding material conductivity, and material thickness. The level of shielding material that weakens or reduces radiation field energy is related to its shielding efficiency (SE). The standard unit of SE is decibels (dB). Its value is the ratio of the electromagnetic field intensity before and after shielding. For every 20 decibels increase in the value of SE, it is manifested as a tenfold decrease in the leakage value of electromagnetic interference through the shielding material. A 60 decibel shield reduces the magnetic field intensity by one thousandth of the original value (for example, from 5 volts per meter to 5 millivolts per meter).
